Welcome to Our Favourite Products, a monthly feature of the products keeping our skin glowing, mood lifted and health high. It's a combination of the new things we've tried over the previous month and historic repeat purchases that we think you might love too. And as part of our editorial policy, every product we write about is vegan, cruelty-free and 100% natural and where possible organic. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the idea of incorporating clean beauty and wellness products into your daily routine — or even finding them, we hope you find the following helpful. And as a reminder, a constant favourite of mine — clean filtered water. Drink it frequently, daily. Here's what I'm loving this month:
In September I shared my enthusiasm for this cruelty-free, vegan mascara and this month it’s my foundation and lipstick — and how I cleanse to take it all off. I thought this would be useful for those with ethical concerns, as there are so many brands, more or less accessible financially. So below, you will find three other vegan and cruelty-free brands I gathered throughout the year.
Freedom Fighter Pout Pop lipstick
Maybe because I am French, I was never obsessed with makeup. I prefer to focus on having nice skin. On occasions, I would apply a dash of mascara, a touch of foundation if I have a skin breakthrough, and lipstick—lipstick is essential, to me, it makes the difference for an effortless still glamorous makeup. Nourishing, long wear and colour of interest are what prevail for the lipstick of my choice.
The Freedom Fighter Pout Pop lipstick from Mecca encompasses all of these. Vegan, cruelty-free makeup, this lipstick is packed with moisturising agents and barriers ingredients, preventing hydration loss and colour fading. This combination results in Freedom Fighter being smooth on the application while still enduring. What I love the most is the colour. Be aware; the actual colour has nothing to do with the one displayed on the website. Here we are between a blood-orange and peach; A declination of a bright dark salmon tint? Which is why I love Freedom Fighter, a vivid, still elegant pop of colour, instantly brightening any makeup—also looking amazing on my summer, tanned skin. Shine On!
Aleph Concealer Foundation and Aleph diffuser brush
Aleph’s range is a collection of multi-functional, natural, cruelty-free makeup products. Long-wearing, they need no reapplication, yet are easy to remove, saving time all the way. The Foundation Concealer formulation combines clean and certified organic ingredients, including jojoba oil for skin protection, cocoa butter for hydration and castor oil for moisture balance. This cover-up enhances your skin health.
On occasions, I apply this foundation with the Aleph brush. I will rub a small amount of product on my hand with the spatula, then diffuse with the brush on my skin and evenly stretch over my face for optimal coverage. The creamy cover sinks almost instantly in the skin; you don’t need a lot for a flawless result. Daily, I prefer to use this mixed with the serum primer, to create a subtly tinted veil on my skin lasting all day. It’s even faster for application! I love that, either way, my skin does not repent on wearing these products, while revealing radiant skin for hours—a must-have.
Ethique SuperStar! cleansing bar
The Ethique SuperStar! bar is hands down the best makeup remover I ever had. Disclaimer, all my makeup products are from cruelty-free makeup brands, mostly vegan, including loads of natural, organic ingredients. I found these types of makeup products are not difficult to remove. Still, this bar is fantastic; it draws out my solid festival glitters in a few swipes.
So how does SuperStar! exercise its magic? An oil-based cleanser, this solid balm associates the deep-cleaning power of castor oil with the astringent properties of sweet orange essential oil. It can get anything out. The bar is also packed with high hydration ingredients, cacao and kokum butter, coconut oil, to stabilise the balance of the skin afterwards.
Being cruelty-free, vegan and palm-oil free, with compostable packaging, SuperStar! is what we expect from a sustainable beauty product. And the application follows suit. Watering the bar under warm water, I rub the block directly on my cheeks, closed eyes, lips. With a damp cloth, I then remove residuals until my face cloth comes back clean, my skin is clear. Easy enough. And so handy to carry! And indispensable.
